| I'm considering bringing my two boys up who are relatively new to racing. It sounds like a nice weekend and a great event. I am, however, shocked that it would cost $58 each for my 11 year old and 17 year old to be in the road race. As USCA class 5 juniors, where there are no cash prizes, only medals, this is more than twice the cost of any other of the 8 races they are scheduled to be in (so far) this year. Why so expensive for the young (and citizen) races? *** Jeff *** - Please email us at superiorbikefest@chartermi.net for additional information Please check out the UPDATES page for details on the new Junior discounts!! | |||

| You guys might consider moving the pro classes in the friday night crit more toward the middle of the schedule as it seems alot of spectators have left by the end of the evening.A better show for more people! Would also be great to have staggered start times for the xc and circuit races on sunday morning.Even if its just an hour.May bring more entries to both events.I have seen riders finish the xc race at the ski hill and then scramble out to the circuit race to ride again. Thanks again for an awesome event! | |||

| Congrats on an awesome event. We all know that this is basically a roadrace event.Hence the scheduling of the "race at the base"event on top of the well established xc mtb race at marquette mt ski area.Since the mountainbike events have been pushed to the back burner you really need to consider lowering the entry fees in the mtb events so more riders can afford to compete. The mountainbike events are almost all off road and require no traffic control from local police which you know is a huge expense.$53.00 for one race is too high even when you sign up early and $70.00 the day of the event is way out of line. You can sign up for some of the largest mtb events in the midwest for $31.00 to around $60.00. Our event here in marquette has huge potential.I hope the rumors about dropping the mtb events are not true.I had a blast at the races as a racer and spectator.Thanks. steve Ferguson....marquette. | |||

| Another great event. Sugeestions would include starting crits earlier to avoid the night time finish for the fast guys/gals. Alos, the band at the crit is fantastic but unappr4ciated at that moment. Why not an after race party(either Fri or Sat night) somewhere outside(ski area, beach, state park??) or in(arena?) with local places selling food and drink to the racers and their families. Superior Food Fest??? Tired of eating in same places each year w/o music. Lastly as it grows, how about a 50 or 55 plus age group for the USCF races??? You can have the 2 groups race together but at least give the older guys a chance for a medal. Thanks. | |||

| My first complaint is that the race weekend is 3 days long. Arriving Thursday restricts our Marquette dining experience to 3 nights limiting pasta and wine visits to Casa, NY Deli and Villa. But there are so many other great options that a "Tour-long" event would allow. The second complaint is the XC Mountain course. This year's changes required skills and timing through diverse trails, complex topography and remarkable geology. But we train on sand. Can they move those things? South? Yours is five and a half hours away from work. The third complaint is the pace cars Jim Grundstrom arranged. Those Corvettes simply don't disturb the air. That's right, no draft - no help. And the YELLOW Z06 I had to chase the whole race, well that was downright unsportsmanlike. I wanted it bad, but never got it. Another issue was registration. No lines, organized and friendly. We incredible athletes are just not used to that type of treatment, and require conflict in our dealings. Also, the hike up Sugarloaf Mountain following Saturday's road race was also quite uncomfortable. The incessant 85 degree temperature plus sunshine beaming through those pesky UP clear deep blue skies - we barely made it to the top for that legendary view. And that required some follow-up rock diving into Superior around the corner at Wetmores Landing. The south wind blew ALL the warm water out to sea that day causing it to be quite chilly. So it's been eight or nine years for me of this abuse and I've had it. These distractions of the Marquette area just have to stop. There are two choices - quit, or get focused and take this race seriously. Or not. Thanks again to Don and the volunteers. | |||

| What an awesome weekend. Everything was so organized and well put together. I couldn't get over how many townies came out to watch the criterium, it was amazing. The support for all of the races was great. I was one of the unfortunates who crashed in turn two of the crit but EMS was right there to make sure everything was cool. I couldn't race Saturday, so I played the flat tire repairman for two ladies in the parking lot at Saturdays RR just before their start. The circuit race was great on Sunday but it made me realize that I need to do a few more hill repeat workouts before I come back to face the U.P. hills. Again, what a great weekend. I will be back next year. Great job! | |||

| This was my first SBF and I was very impressed with the overall event. Everyone was friendly, the races were well organized, all the volunteers and supporters were very helpful, and you even did a great job getting the right weather. Kudos to everyone who helped put it together and run a smooth event! I know the circuit race on Sunday was new this year, but that was the favorite in my mind. The families liked it too since they could see the riders so often. The crit is great but just too late for the little ones to watch. My family and I had a great time. Thank you very much! We'll be back. Gordy Fitch, Hagerty Race Team. | |||

| Thanks for the great race. The criterium was a very special event with more fans than most of us ever see. The road race was epic, and the Circuit Race course was excellent. Everyone from the Midwest should mark this race on their calendars for 2008. Derek Witte Priority Health Cycling Team Member | |||

| I had a great time sure wish other riders would tell other recumbent riders to make the trip up and ride.thanks to all the volunteers and other riders who offered encouragement along the way it is a morale booster for me, THANK YOU!!! i dont normally buy the paper but have been hoping to cut out my finishing time but all I have seen so far has left out the times for the citizens races. Maybe I missed them but It would be nice to see the times for everybody not just the top riders. | |||

| I did all the road events and had a great time. They were run smoothly, on time and the courses were fun. I was amazed by the number of spectators at the crit Friday night. Some extra lighting on the course for the Pro/1/2 criterium would be nice. The finishing straight was well lit, but it was very dark at the back of the course. Especially the last 15 minutes. Everyone needs to spread the word about this excellent event so the field is bigger next year! | |||

| This was our first trip to this event. My wife and little boy came up, along with my twin brother (Ryan White). We had a great time. Ryan and I took part in the three road events (Cat 1,2) and loved the courses and the people puting the events on. Everyone was so nice that came to Friday night crit and were great spectators. The races were challenging, and fast. The road race was awesome, the roads were smooth and a safe place to have a road race. The event staff was so helpful and nice. We will enjoy coming back next year. Thank you for a great weekend! | |||

| The Superior bike fest was once again superb!! The events were exciting and the courses had a great balance of difficulty. However, as someone fairly new to cycling I have a few suggestions. The most difficult thing for me was lack of information. I only ever saw the race schedule and times in the "Racer's Bible" There was no easy way to double check when queuing up for a race. The late change to the Crit format was confusing. I still do not fully understand the rules under which I was racing. There was no reference in the "Bible" explaining what 20 min + 1 lap meant. I ended up busting my lungs on the second to last lap because of this confusion. Thank-you for an over-all great experience and the cast of volunteers were tremendous. See you next year. | |||

| Although I typically prefer point-to-point race courses, the 'Mountain Chase' course is so unique and exciting that I don't mind doing 3 laps at all. It has a lot of changes, transitions, and challenges around the corners that keep the rider 'on his toes'. In combination with the road and other events, this makes for a pretty active weekend, a package well worth the cost, at one of the silent sport meccas of the Midwest, if not America. | |||

| Our family racers rated the downhill course as awesome and cool, but decided not to do the Super-D. It was hard to hear the guy with the bullhorn making announcements even when we were sitting close by, maybe use the larger P.A. system for that as well as awards. Any Superior Bike Fest stickers or shirts for sale at the event would be cool. Need to get the Freeride/Slope-Style events back like last year. I agree with Nelson from Houghton, music would create a more energetic environment. We'll be back next year! Thanks for all you've done. | |||

| This IS the one race I look forward to every year. This year the DH course is the best to date! Really fun and fast with great corners and jumps. This is the best DH course in the Midwest! Mark it on your calander for next year! Great job guys! Tip of the hat to the guys who worked on the track! Cheers! | |||

| I grew up racing XC around the midwest, and the SBF has easily the best trails I've seen in the midwest. Thanks a lot for putting on a great, well-rounded event. Questions: Maybe porta-potties at the mountain? Maybe use the website to actually showcase the events you'll be having, and make sure you let everyone know if something isn't going to be run (like the hillclimb this year). Those are the only two things that threw off an otherwise amazing weekend. Thanks again! | |||

| The gravity events are great, especially with the addition of the super downhill. I've enjoyed the downhill events for several years now and I'll definately be back. However, I feel there are two key items lacking; music and an announcer. When you are at the bottom of the hill, people are just kind of milling around, hanging out at tents, every once in a while a biker comes in or leaves. Music would help create a more energetic environment. For the racers, having an announcer would help greatly. There were several instances where people where asking,"whats going on?" and there wasn't really a way to get the answer. Same goes for spectators. An announcer can tell them whats up and direct them to the best viewing locations. Last year there was a lot more focus on exciting times at the gravity events on Saturday, and this year it seemed the crit took the spotlight. It would be nice to see the gravity events get the same spectator friendly features that make the crit more exciting. (editor's note) - your points are well taken and we will definitely step this up next year. | |||

| A Premier Cycling Weekend Just Keeps Getting Better! Wow. Unceasingly, the warm, friendly, welcoming community of Marquette, MI nestled along the rugged shoreline of Superior. The permanance of granite rock formations outcropped with age-old timbers struggling for nourishment from seeded cracks. And we get to race here...through quaint once- military and mining towns, teeming with race support volunteers and spectators alike. The rattling of cow bells for encouragement, and offers of hydration to slake our parched pelatons. New friends each trip, and always a great race story to tell those back home who simply missed the best weekend of cycling the year has to offer. Thanks to Donn Wolf and the rest of the organizing committee, and the Marquette community for several years of my favorite weekend cycling experience. Also: my privilege to ride with the very talented cyclists of the 80/88 chase group this trip. It was a hoot. | |||

| I just want to compliment all the volunteers who put on such a great weekend full of bike racing. The crit, RR, and XC courses are simply amazing; the best in the area. I do have one suggestion for next year's races and that is to have over-all winner's medals for the 8 & 16 mile XC races and for the 40 mile RR. Thanks again for the best weekend of bike racing in the Midwest! | |||

| The awards for the Gravity events should be before or seperate from the road race and crit. When your at the hill from 9 am, waiting to get your medal becomes very hard. It only takes 5 minutes to do the Gravity awards, so why not do them first? Why do we have to sit and watch 1.5 hours of awards? Give a us break next year and do the Gravity events first!!!!!!! or do the road and crit after the road races so that the people traveling can go. This only makes sense nad happier racers. The Gravity were great as usal just change up the award timing. | |||

| SBF races are the best run races I do all season and they take place on the best courses in Michigan. Where else can you do an 80 mile out and back course on good roads with serious hills? Even the crit has hills! Kudos to everyone in the organization who, by the way, looks like they're having fun too. | |||
